The Knotted-Front Skirt

March 20, 2026. The midi skirt has shifted from flat, uninterrupted lines to a front that is visibly pulled, twisted, or draped into a central knot or gather. This intervention breaks the vertical plane, introducing asymmetry and controlled volume without altering the underlying length or coverage. It works in corporate settings because the base format remains a classic, below-the-knee skirt with a stable waistband and contained silhouette. The fabric is not added but redistributed, keeping the gesture structural rather than decorative. What prevents it from reading as corporate-neutral is the disruption of the front line, which creates movement and tension within an otherwise disciplined form. Case in point above from Spring Summer 2026 runway at Givenchy.
